Union Mine Cross Country 2020 Training Plans

Union Mine Cross Country 2020 Training Plans

Cross Country is for everyone. Any gender, age, experience, ability, aspirations, goals, or motivations. The team is for someone wanting to make friends, loose weight, or be apart of a team to someone who wants to compete in college or beyond. There is something for everyone on this team.

First: You need to determine your goals. Begin each phase of your life with the end in mind and build your path backwards. Where do you want to be at the end of the season? Use What are your cross country goals?  to guide you then email Coach Fuji when you have those goals. Remember, cross country is a team and individual sport. The teams with at least 7 runners who have the same goal in mind will be champions. Is that this team? Talk to each other about your goals individually and as a team.

Second: You need to determine what it will take to get you to your goals. A dream without a plan is a wish. You need to have a thoughtful, smart, approach to moving yourself towards your goals. Use the Union Mine Cross Country 2020 Training Plans to guide you on how you should train to meet your goals at the end of the season. Please contact Coach Fuji with your plan or if you need help creating a plan to match your goals and needs. Not everyone fits into one of the four plans, I can help you modify, adapt, accommodate each plan to meet your goals. Remember, cross country is a team and individual sport. The teams with at least 7 runners who have the same dedication and commitment to their training will be champions. Is that this team? Talk to each other about your goals individually and as a team.

If you are starting out past the Monday, April 27th start date, then start on Week 1 of your training and build up from there.

Please contact Coach Fuji if you have any questions, comments, of concerns.

Union Mine Cross Country 2020 Schedule

Please save, print out, or take a picture of the schedule for competitions next year. We are proud to create this schedule 6 months in advance to allow student athletes, parents, and guardians times to plan for the Fall Season ahead.

Updates to the schedule and how we are doing it differently this year:
  • Varsity and Frosh/Soph/JV Separated. The entire team will travel together to the races to support each other, however the biggest change this year is that not all groups will be racing each weekend. Varsity will be racing one weekend, while the Frosh/Soph/JV Runners will be off. The two groups will travel together and are expected to attend the races even if they are not competing.
  • Why? To Establish Rest Periods: We will switch off each weekend, Varsity Runners competing one weekend and Frosh/Soph/JV Runners competing the next. The goal is to give runners rest weekends between races to allow for maximum recovery throughout the season.
  • Traveling. The 2019 Cross Country season saw a huge effort from the runners, parents/guardians through fundraising efforts to create a great opportunity for the 2020 season. The varsity teams will be traveling around the state to find high caliber, competitive, large races to run against elevated competition. This would not be possible without donations, fundraising efforts, and the entire team's enthusiasm.
  • Varsity, JV, and Frosh/Soph Levels. For those that are new to high school athletics and cross country the following break down is for clarity on which runners fall into the three different groups. Its important to note: Everyone makes the team, everyone has a chance to compete!
    • Cross Country Scoring Team: A cross country team consists of 7 runners. 5 scorers and two tie breakers or displacers. The runners after the 7th runner are extra runners not scoring. Anyone can compete to be one of the top 7 runners to be on the team. The places of the top 5 runners are added up and the sum is the cross country team's score. The team with the lowest score(or closest to 15) is the winner.
    • Varsity Runners: Top 7 runners  on the team, regardless of age, class, or experience. Freshmen and Sophomores can run down to Frosh/Soph when necessary. Only 7 runners run at the varsity level at any time, these runners can change throughout a season.
    • Junior Varsity(JV) Runners: Any class(Freshmen-Senior). Juniors and seniors who do not make the varsity team will run Junior Varsity. Unlimited runners run at the junior varsity level at any time.
    • Frosh/Soph(Freshmen/Sophomore) Runners: Freshmen and Sophomores who do not make the varsity team. Unlimited runners run at the Frosh/Soph level at any time.
